The College of History and Ethnic Culture (CHEC) can trace its origins to the history major established in 1942 at National Guizhou University. Over the years, the CHEC has evolved through various stages, including the Department of History, the Department of History within the College of Humanities, and the College of History and Ethnic Culture (Chinese Culture Academy). The College currently offers an undergraduate major in history, which is one of the key humanities programs supported and developed by the university and has been recognized as a first-class undergraduate major in Guizhou Province.
The College offers two first-level master's degree programs in Chinese history and ethnology, as well as two professional master's degree programs in Cultural Relics and Museology. Among these, the ethnology program has been designated as a key provincial program in Guizhou.
The CHEC boasts a faculty of 41 members, including 33 full-time teachers, with 60% holding senior titles and 88.7% holding doctoral degrees. The College's faculty includes one core expert of Guizhou Province, one provincial excellent expert, one Qianling Scholar, and one provincial academic pioneer. The faculty is well-balanced in terms of age and academic background, with strong teaching and research capabilities, and has long been committed to cultivating high-quality talent that contributes to China's modernization and promotes economic and social development in both Guizhou and the nation.
With a mission to cultivate talents in both morality and knowledge, the CHEC has produced many distinguished scholars, including Li Dongfang, Yao Gongshu, and Zhang Zhenpei. The College has graduated nearly 5,000 bachelor's degree holders in history and over 700 master's degree holders in Chinese history, ethnology, and Cultural Relics and Museology, providing a large pool of talent for China's modernization.
